The MaintScape Bar Coding optional module lets you print bar code labels and then scan the labels to perform actions in MaintScape.
The part label example at left is one type of bar code label printed by MaintScape.
You can print bar code labels for any type of MaintScape object - such as parts, equipment, locations, etc.
Bar coding actions that can be performed in MaintScape are:
Issue Parts to Work Orders
First you scan the bar code printed on a MaintScape work order.
Next you scan a part bar code, and enter a usage quantity (default is 1).
The part will then get added to the work order when the scanner record is processed.
If the part is under inventory control and the parts inventory control optional module is enabled, the part quantity will be issued from inventory when the work order is closed.
Part Inventory Counts
Scan a part bar code, then enter the count quantity.
MaintScape will create a part inventory transaction of type 'Count' when the scanner record is processed.
This action requires the part be under inventory control and the parts inventory control optional module be enabled.
Receive Parts
Scan a part bar code, then enter the received quantity.
MaintScape will create a part inventory transaction of type 'Receipt' when the scanner record is processed.
This action does not require the parts inventory control optional module since parts not under inventory control can be received into MaintScape.
Direct Issue Parts from Inventory
Scan a part bar code, then enter the issue quantity.
MaintScape will create a part inventory transaction of type 'Direct Issue' when the scanner record is processed.
This lets you issue a part from inventory without needing a work order.
This action requires the part be under inventory control and the parts inventory control optional module be enabled.
